Falconry

Falconry is the traditional practice of training and flying falcons to use them both in hunting and as a recreational activity. The History of the Three Kingdoms (1145) make an early mention of falconry, whilst Joseon Dynasty records provide much detail. Falconry is not protected as national intangible cultural heritage but was inscribed onto the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010 as a joint nomintion with Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Mongolia, Morocco, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Syria and the United Arab Emirates. There were further nominations in 2016 and 2021 resulting in there currently (2026) being 24 countries with falconry registered as intangible cultural heritage.
